{"id":346,"date":"2013-08-20T09:50:37","date_gmt":"2013-08-20T09:50:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tungsten-beads.co.uk\/wordpress\/?p=346"},"modified":"2017-11-13T11:35:31","modified_gmt":"2017-11-13T11:35:31","slug":"tenkara-doodles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tungsten-beads-plus.co.uk\/?p=346","title":{"rendered":"Tenkara Doodles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-726\" src=\"https:\/\/Tungsten-beads-plus.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Tenkara-line-drawing.png\" alt=\"Tenkara Line Drawing\" width=\"1140\" height=\"713\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tungsten-beads-plus.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Tenkara-line-drawing.png 1140w, https:\/\/tungsten-beads-plus.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Tenkara-line-drawing-300x188.png 300w, https:\/\/tungsten-beads-plus.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Tenkara-line-drawing-768x480.png 768w, https:\/\/tungsten-beads-plus.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Tenkara-line-drawing-1024x640.png 1024w, https:\/\/tungsten-beads-plus.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Tenkara-line-drawing-810x507.png 810w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1140px) 100vw, 1140px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Although not the only method<strong><!--more--><\/strong> employed when fishing Tenkara, the ability to hold line off the water avoiding drag caused by currents is one of its key advantages. \u00a0This is also one of the keys to the French nymph or long nymph method of fly fishing. \u00a0There are many factors that affect this technique; I&#8217;ve done a few drawings that hopefully demonstrate some of them. \u00a0I&#8217;m going to refer to Western fly fishing, or fly fishing as we normally do it with ringed fly rod, reel and fly line as &#8216;traditional fly fishing&#8217; through the rest of this article.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Effect of breeze\" href=\"http:\/\/farm6.staticflickr.com\/5546\/9554540716_5e4517cce7_o.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm6.staticflickr.com\/5546\/9554540716_0a6e6fa737.jpg\" alt=\"Effect of breeze\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We need some line weight to allow us to cast the fly, just as in traditional fly fishing. \u00a0 High density fluorocarbon allows us to have the desired weight in a thinner diameter line with less wind drag. \u00a0Some people have been experimenting with very thin titanium wire for windy conditions. \u00a0The weight of the fly makes a bigger difference than in traditional fly fishing. \u00a0I feel a #3 Tenkara line approximates to #2 or #3 in traditional fly but steps up seem to make a bigger difference so a #4 Tenkara level line approximates to about #5 weight in traditional fly. The step from #3 level line to #3.5 is very noticeable, probably like going up a whole line weight in traditional fly fishing.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7411\/9551747741_06af024c6d.jpg\" alt=\"Tenkara line diameter\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Generally a longer rod is needed because we want to suspend a longer length of line and to give us longer reach now we can&#8217;t pay out extra line.
